By the Water's Edge

"By the Water's Edge" is a seven-colour lithograph drawn, processed and printed from Bavarian limestone by the artist and was the 1998 Gift Print for the Honolulu Printmakers Organization. A project they have been commissioning in the islands since 1933. The image was originally sketched at The Valley of the Temples in Kaneohe, Oahu in the fall of 1997. This print also appears as an element in the print "Waiting for Moments of Gladness".
Since I was a small child I've always been fascinated by fish, especially koi, in their dark green shallow ponds, a splash of colour in an otherwise murky environment. There is an elegance to their form, movement and surroundings. I find myself continually being inspired by the spiritual quality of this other world, one which is reflected in the quietness of the environment.
